The finger on the button...

McCain's Empty Head

Sirota has many more deeply intelligent comments to make on this here:

The good news is that the economic debate is largely leaving McCain in the dust. The Treasury Department has been shamed into buying bank stock, after bailout opponents and world leaders demanded such a course. The problem is that Henry Paulson is still insisting on trying to forge a giveaway to his Wall Street buddies.

For example, Paulson is insisting on only buying nonvoting shares of banks. As the New York Times reports, "That means the banks’ current boards and current management — the same people who got the country into this mess — will still be making all of the decisions." Additionally, Paulson is only buying preferred shares that get a 5 percent interest return for taxpayers - a far lower rate than a private businessman would get in driving a hard bargain (for instance, Warren Buffett got 10 percent when he recently invested in Goldman Sachs).

Comment:

I don't love Obama. I'm voting for him anyway because I think his becoming president has meta-meaning that is useful going forward. I hope that Obama will reform many of his stated policies about war, intervention abroad, the economy and a whole bunch of other issues. Obama is not nearly left or progressive enough for me to squarely get behind the man.

But I don't know what explains this moron McCain. Instead of standing on his record of service to the people of Arizona all he does is run an attack campaign. When he manages to make some kind of meaningful utterances, he's talking utter empty-headed bullshit.

And everyone knows this.

So, here's my prediction: a huge turnout of progressives and Democrats for Obama - the only candidate they could possibly vote for under the circumstances. And the Rethugs stay home in droves.

Because that's what they do. When they can't get their way - like petulant children - they just stay in, withhold their votes and sulk about how they aren't the kings and queens of the universe.

McCain's Reverse Robin Hood Healthcare Plan!

"Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation."

Yeah, that's rich - certainly it serves the purposes of the very rich! Can McCain have really have stated something so egregiously stupid?

I guess no one hipped him to the fact that the wonderfully deregulated banking industry has driven our economy straight to the brink and is now set to cost Joe and Jane Sixpack over a trillion borrowed dollars to set things right again. Yup, they will fix the fuck up and then everything will be great again. Except that many are still going to be foreclosed upon. Many borrowers will still be on the hook for what should have been illegal loans. Personal bankruptcy has been made substantially more difficult than ever, and forget about forgiveness for educational loans (even though the many western nations offer free merit-based educations). And not one of the Wall Street fools that has robbed from the middle-class will ever see a single day in jail for fraud.

Yes, what we need more of right now is the kind of Reverse Robin Hood thinking that will put even more money into the hands of those who already have so much they don't even know what to do with it. If the absurd notion of "trickle down" economics should ever have worked, why isn't it working right now? Where's that money trickling down to right now?

Nowheres-ville.

Vote Reverse Robin Hood. Vote McCain!

Do your fucking job, you silly cunt!

Pelosi: Bush 'a total failure'
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/07/17/pelosi.interview/index.html?eref=rss_topstories

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called President Bush "a total failure" on Thursday, among the California Democrat's harshest assessments to date of the president.

"God bless him, bless his heart, president of the United States -- a total failure, losing all credibility with the American people on the economy, on the war, on energy, you name the subject," Pelosi told CNN's Wolf Blitzer in an exclusive interview.

...

But Pelosi's comments come as a new Gallup poll registers the lowest level of congressional approval among Americans in the polling organization's 30-year history of conducting that survey.

What explains the arrogance of this woman?

I am pretty sure I voted her and her god-damned party in so that they would get us out of these wars and impeach the motherfucking Prez. But she declared both of those fundamental moves off the table. I am quite sure that the Dems thought they could delay dealing with Bush so that it would more significantly affect the outcome of the next major election cycle. Put another way, they traded more American blood for political advantages.

I will now vote for anyone but Pelosi, because I have to vote against someone with the ability to make such a ghastly ethical trade-off. And let's be clear, she put her own political party and personal motives above doing her congressional duties and impeaching a Prez who is almost certainly guilty of several felonious federal offenses.

I can only hope that the plan is to go after Bush after the next election, once he no longer has executive privileges protecting him. I do want this one Prez to end up behind bars with his pals.

But I won't hold my breath.

Already the next Prez apparent, cocksucking Obama, has it in mind to keep these wars going - maybe going bigger in Afghanistan. What a dolt! Already he appears to be another puppet for big oil and the military industrial complex. I might as well vote McCain - at least McCain is honest about his overweening greed and his transparent desire to follow in the footsteps of Bush.

What a world, what a world...!
